Where are the best places to park a motorcycle in LA (sidewalk parking)?

I live in LA and just bought a Yamaha R6, and I was wondering where the best places would be to park it. I've been doing some research, and from what i've gathered, it's illegal to park on sidewalks, but people do it all the time and usually as long as it's not blocking anybody you can do it for a short period of time without any hle? I see motorcycles parked by bike racks or near store entrances out of the way. Is this usually acceptable? Also, if I have to park in the lot, should I only park if I can get an end spot where i'm visible to other cars? I know that some cars just plow into a spot that they think is empty without any regard. As far as parking on the street, I know to park at an angle with my back wheel against the curb to make myself more visible. My main question is if it is acceptable (and if I will get ticketed) for parking my bike on a sidewalk if it is out of the way of pedestrians. Also, considering the fact that it's a sportbike and appealing to those thieves out there, I bought a kryptonite lock/chain and a disc lock. Should these be adequate deterrents? Thanks.
