Any tips on improving my imrpov skills?
I've been playing the saxophone for 6, almost 7 years now. I play alto, tenor, and soprano mostly, and I am very dedicated to practicing almost every single day. I have been improvising for about 2 years now, my teacher says that I am doing really well and he is impressed with my ability to do it, but as a player I've noticed lately that on certain scales I have a tendency to repeat the same phrases and it ends up sounding the same nearly every time! What can I do to get out of this bad habit? And also, whenever I try doing improv with a back track it sounds so... immature and I can't make it fit, does anyone have some good ideas for me to improve my skills on improvising? I have the whole summer to really work on it so practicing won't be an issue, I need to break my old habits and become more advanced, any advice? Please and thank you!
